How Do You Do It?

From the time the twins were born, this is a question we have heard a thousand times. How do you do it? How do you juggle all 3? How do you make time for yourselves? (answer to the last one: we don't) Haha. No just kidding. It is alot of work with 3 small kids in the house. There is absolutely NO down time for Mom and Dad. From the time we wake up, until our heads hit the pillow (literally) at night, we are up and moving and constantly doing something.

I'm not gonna lie. In the beginning there were lots of tears, from both the kids and the parents. The second night home with the babies was THE HARDEST. It was just us. No moms. No sisters or aunts. We were thrown out to the wolves (the twins), and forced to learn how to survive. That night was really rough. I remember being up for a night feeding with Kylie, and Kaysen came in crying for me to come and lay down with her so she could go back to sleep, which is something I would ordinarily do, but with trying to nurse both babies, it just wasn't going to happen. And of course, she didn't understand why mommy is saying no, so she threw a tantrum. I sat and cried because:
1. I felt like a failure
2. I was thinking, "there is no way to give all 3 the attention they need"
3. I was mentally, emotionally, and physically drained

There were a few nights like this. The good news is, everything soon got better. :-)

You really want to know what the secret is to managing a four year old and twin one year olds? Having a great support system; friends and family who are willing to drop whatever they are doing to come and help. If it wasn't for this, we would not have  made it this past year.

Someone recently asked me, 'is it harder now that they're older or was it harder when they were smaller?'. I responded that it is easier now, since they are walking and we have a routine established, but I may have to rethink that answer. As they grow so do their personalities, their needs, and their wants. So even though we may think we have it under control, there are days that we realize we don't. We have alot of crazy, hectic days with these girls. And that's ok, because we wouldn't have it any other way.
